Coming to a school near you! We run workshops for Grade 8 students, and are currently working on a workshop package that teachers can download and use for lessons.
Wake teaches kids about how cool sharks and the oceans are through a series of dynamic presentations, hand's on workshops and Q&A sessions that access prior knowledge and basically give students a lot to think about!
Topics covered include:
Workshop 1 – ‘Spectacular Sharks’ (20 minutes)
• How long have sharks been on our planet?
• How many species of shark are there?
• What’s the biggest/weirdest looking shark?
• Should we be afraid of sharks?
• Why they should be afraid of us!
• Tuna fishing and bycatch, why is it bad?
• How we can all make a difference!

Workshop 2 – ‘Amazing Oceans’ (20 minutes)
• How much of the Earth is covered by ocean?
• The underwater world off BC and the tropics
• The Ocean ecosystem and why it’s changing
• Ocean oxygen production and phytoplankton
• Apex predators
• Ocean conservation and sharks
• Activist or Inactivist. Which one are you?

Our workshops talk about the different types of shark in the world and how important they are to our ocean. Our main aim is to teach students about why we need to respect the world that we live in, especially the underwater world that we know so little about! It’s time to get in the wake!
